David S. Americus joined the firm in 1988 and is an equity partner. David concentrates his practice on sports law, employment law, business counseling and transactions, and litigation.  David’s sports law practice includes a wide variety of matters, including but not limited to monitoring League rules and regulations and providing counsel on compliance, handling sports related litigation and investigative matters, drafting naming rights and sponsorship agreements, drafting coach and management employment agreements, preparing sweepstakes rules, preparing suite license agreements, and handling intellectual property matters.  David’s employment practice includes drafting employment contracts, handling employment related litigation matters, and counseling on issues such as employee discipline and discharge, workplace investigation, disability accommodation, and other employment and business issues.  David’s litigation practice includes a wide variety of business related litigation matters, and David regularly appears in federal and state courts and before local administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and Illinois Department of Human Rights.

David has received the highest review rating from his peers for ethical standards and professional ability, earning an AV Preeminent Rating® from Martindale-Hubbell®.  In addition, David was named one of the Leading Lawyers of Illinois in 2023 (a recognition he also received every year since 2014), based on a statewide survey of lawyers. Leading Lawyers comprise less than 5% of all lawyers in Illinois.   In addition, David was named an Illinois Super Lawyer for 2023, the fifth consecutive year he received this distinction.  The Super Lawyers award is based on peer reviews and evaluations, and fewer than 5% of all lawyers in Illinois receive this distinction.
